Little Mirrored Cases

Mirrored cases

Mirrored cases

Little did I know, that my short hop-out to the flea market to buy a gift for a friends’ birthday, would turn into a gifting spree to myself. From the most lavish coffee bar lanes of Connaught Place to the neon-sprinkled street shops, I knew it that my hunger for something new is going to hit the aisle today!

On reaching there, I started looking for chunky jewelry. That is when my eyes chanced upon the prettiest of jewel cases I had ever seen. Tiny mirror pieces in round, square, diamond shapes to name a few, adorned jewel boxes, big and small, in several patterns. I was amazed to find these, for I always thought, mirror pieces could be used only in chunky jewelry.

My obvious anxiety laid my hands on one of these and more curious than ever, I asked the lady selling these boxes, about how these are made. Then I learned that the cases are first covered with colored paper in multiple bright shades of orange, pink and yellow to purple and green, aah the hues went endlessly.

These gorgeous little mirrors are carefully glued next to each other, or in a pattern, varying from box to box. Also, that the art flows from borders of Gujarat and Rajasthan, my awe for another marvel factor of Indian ethnicity got bigger.

Walks to these lanes are on!
