Gul Panag & Rishi Attari Wedding

Two years on, and their wedding is still the talk of tinsel town. Former Miss India Gul Panag went against the set normative of how a big, fat ‘Punjabi Bollywood’ wedding should take place, leaving the Kapoor’s and the Shetty’s, far behind. The tall and graceful Gul is an avid lover of motorbikes, and her entire wedding procession took place with a stream of motorbikers who made their way to the wedding venue. Gul and her husband, Gurshwinder Singh Attari, who is a commercial pilot, sat on a motorbike, and Gul even put on a chic pair of aviators to give her ‘unusual’ wedding that extra quirk!  With fun frolicking across the entire mood of the wedding, Gul’s exuberant and candid behavior was definitely a refreshing sight in contrast to the usual Indian brides.

The Love Story

Rishi’s family lives in Amritsar and his father belongs to the family of famous warrior Sham Singh Attariwala, a trusted aid of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, so it was just perfect to see the bride and groom wear Aviators during the course of the ceremony. It was especially astounding to see them leave post the Bidai or Farewell for the reception not in a swanky decorated car, instead in a Jai-Veeru style on a Royal Enfield with a sidecar. Theirs was a typical childhood-sweethearts story culminating into marriage, but their wedding was anything but ‘typical’. They met in boarding school and had been going strong ever since. The initial plan of getting married in a very intimate ceremony in Ladakh didn’t work out, as it was hyped up in media.

This biker chic wedding was an affair to remember because of various ‘stylish’ reasons. She never wanted to be the coy bride sitting in the corner, and that she wasn’t because she converted her enormous love for bikes into the theme of her wedding.

The Bride’s Dress

Gul wore an onion-pink lehenga designed by JJ Valaya and Anita Dongre with heavy necklace and earrings.  Gota patti and zari work was used to embellish the entire ensemble which made it look vibrant and exquisite. Gul wore a beautiful gold maang tikka in the center of her forehead and to give it that extra panache she even donned a ‘jhoomar’ which is similar to the way in which Muslim brides wear maang tikkas. Chunky gold jhumkas and a heavy neckpiece completed the entire look and made her look resplendent.

The turbaned groom Gurshinder Singh Attari (popularly known as Rishi) wore an off-white sherwani also designed by the same designers. Gul is well-known for her adventurous lifestyle and outspoken attitude, and she has never played the dainty little darling, which truly reflected in her wedding as well!

What really sets this wedding apart is not only the Enfield’s, aviators or how for a ‘Bollywood’ wedding it managed to remain such a low key affair; but instead how real this wedding seemed and how the couple came across as two very relatable people. Gul actually beamed with happiness, and the attendees were waiting for her to shed bucketful of tears. But this sassy bride was thoroughly enjoying her wedding and wasn’t going to shed any tears. Instead, after the party moved indoors followed by fun wedding pictures. All in all it was refreshing to see such a beautiful and innovative celebrity wedding.
